The equities of seasoned companies which emphasize stability over growth. The fact that these equities are generally slow moving and therefore relatively unattractive to in-and-out traders and speculators nevertheless represents a kind of built-in safety feature in that they are also better able to withstand selling pressure in a declining market. They are sometimes called “protective stocks”.
